Brothers Custo and David Dalmau’s year-long
motorcycle trip around the world in the early
1980's was meant to be a youthful rite of passage.
The result, however, was Custo Barcelona,
a bold new fashion label launched
shortly afterwards. Experiencing the world's
varied arts, cultures, philosophies, and landscapes
had a major impact on the brothers. In
particular, California's surfer way of life and psychedelic colors resonated with them, and
they realized this style was not available in
Spain. |
After extensive research on screen
printing and graphic design, the Custo Barcelona
line was ready to enchant women. “There
is so much seriousness out there – so much
that is neutral and monochromatic. A woman
needs an outlet for her creativity and her
whimsy. [We] want to give her that." |
